Let There Be Light!

How backsplash tile & countertops can help you make the most of your lighting

With closing in on 20 years in the home improvement industry, a couple phrases that I've yet to hear from a client would be "I wish it was darker in my kitchen!" or "I wish my bathroom didn't have so much light!". No way!

Instead, it’s (often aggressively!) quite the opposite!

That being said, I wanted to call attention to just how much you can help make the most of your existing lighting by adding some nice shiny surfaces to your space; such as polished stone countertops and/or some glossy backsplash tile.

Polished stone countertops & glossy tiles not only provide a stylish & luxurious upgrade to your space, but they easily allow light to reflect off of their surfaces and bounce back into your room; as opposed to duller, more worn finishes which can often eat up your lighting and turn your under-cabinet counter space into a dark abyss!

Whether it’s the overhead kitchen light, the oven light, the light above the bathroom mirror, or otherwise…polished, glossy, reflective surfaces will help enhance and make the most of it.

Don’t let darker countertop colors fool you into thinking that they’re going to kill your lighting! Notice how easily the backsplash tile reflects off of these gray quartz counters in the image above!

In addition to helping your space feel brighter and more lively, smooth polished surfaces are also extremely easy to care for; so depending on how heavily you use your space, maintenance can sometimes be almost non-existent. A lot of polished countertop & tile surfaces can be easily cleaned & maintained with just some gentle wiping using a damp (or sometimes even dry!) microfiber cloth.

The next time you feel like your kitchen's dim atmosphere or dull appearance is bringing you down- consider that a countertop update and/or the addition of some backsplash tile could provide more function & benefit than one might think!

I hope this post was able to provide even a little insight for things to potentially consider when choosing the right materials for your space; and know that these concepts are the same whether it’s kitchen countertops & backsplash combos, or bathroom vanity tops and tile tubs & showers.

Your home should bring you happiness, not headaches; and make you feel stoked, not stressed!
